THIS SEASON: Robert Glinta, a 2018 freshman, is a Romanian Olympian and World Championships backstroke finalist who figures to provide strong scoring punch in his specialty as well as in the free while challenging for major roles at the Pac-12s and NCAAs.
ROMANIA: Glinta, from Baia Mare, Romania, established himself as a national team member and owns his federation’s national records in the 50m, 100m and 200m back. He represented the country most recently at the 2016 FINA Short Course Worlds where he was a two-time finalist, taking seventh in the 100m back (50.52) and eighth in the 200m back (1:57.57) … At the 2016 Olympics, he was a finalist in the 100m back, taking eighth in 53.50. He was also 18th in the 200m back (1:57.91) … He was a gold medalist in the 100m back (54.30) at the 2015 Junior Worlds and he was fifth in the race (55.21) at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics.
