THIS SEASON: Anika Apostalon is a 2017 senior co-captain in her second year at USC who is coming off a five-time All-American performance as a junior that included an NCAA relay title. She is one of the country's top sprinters and backstrokers who will challenge again for titles at the Pac-12s and NCAAs.
2016: Apostalon, as a 2016 junior transfer from San Diego State, turned in a magnificent USC debut season, finishing as a five-time All-American -- which included an NCAA relay title -- and a two-time Pac-12 finalist. At the 2016 NCAA Championships, Apostalon's efforts were highlighted by her clinching anchor leg in USC's first-ever NCAA title in the 400y free relay. She also reached the 100y free final for the first time, finishing eighth (47.72) after qualifying fifth in a PR 47.65. Apostalon also swam second on USC's second-place 800y free relay and fourth-place 200y free relay and anchored Troy's fifth-place 400y medley relay. All four relays she swam on set school records. In addition to her 100 free final, she won the B final in the 50y free in 21.82 and just missed a second swim in the 100y back, taking 17th (52.04) ... At the 2016 Pac-12 Championships, she was part of USC's then-school-record setting 800y free relay title and was a two-time finalist, finishing third in both in the 50y (21.94) and 100y free (47.77). She was 10th in the 100y back (52.84) and anchored the Trojans' second-place 400y free relay that also set a short-lived USC record ... She won the 100y free (48.21) at the Texas Invitational and was on Troy's winning 400y free and medley relays ... At the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, she was a semifinalist in the 50m free, finishing 12th (25.34) after qualifying with a 25.43. She was also 24th in the 100m free (55.83) and 39th in the 100m back (1:02.36) ... Apostalon earned CSCAA Scholar-All-American first team honors.
SAN DIEGO STATE: Apostalon was a five-time individual scorer at the NCAA Championships in two years (2014-15) with the Aztecs and was the 2014 Mountain West Swimmer of the Year as well as the conference's 2014 Freshman of the Year ... As a 2015 sophomore at the NCAA Championships, Apostalon was 12th in the 100y free (48.31), 15th in the 50y free (22.22) and 30th in the 100y back (53.12) ... She helped the Aztecs win the 2015 Mountain West Conference team championship, successfully defending her titles in the 50y (21.82) and 100y free (47.88) and the 100y back (52.38). She also helped SDSU to relay wins in the 200y free and medley relays and the 400 medley relay ... As a 2014 freshman, Apostalon earned All-America honors by finishing seventh in the 50y free (22.00) at the NCAAs. She was also 14th in the 100y back (52.54) and 15th in the 100y free (48.44) ... At the 2014 Mountain West Championships, she won the 50y free (21.76), 100y free (47.73) and 100y back (51.92) and was also a member of four winning relays ... Apostalon is SDSU's school record holder in the 50y (21.76) and 100y free (47.73) and in the 100y back (51.92) ... She twice earned Mountain West Conference All-Academic and Scholar-Athlete honors ... She also played water polo for the Aztecs.

HIGH SCHOOL: Apostalon prepped at Albuquerque (N.M.) Academy, earning multiple prep All-American honors. ... Apostalon was a four-time state champion in the 100y free and a two-time winner of the 100y back and owns state records in the 50y and 100y free and the 100y back. Also a water polo player in high school, she named the New Mexico high school Water Polo League (NMWPHSL) MVP in 2012 and 2013 ... She competed at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, taking 66th in the 100m back. PERSONAL Apostalon was born Feb. 2, 1995, and she is a psychology major ... She played piano for 10 years and taught herself guitar ... Her father, Mark, has a background in competitive judo.
