Laurel Weaver is in her third season (2021-22) as the volunteer assistant coach for the Women of Troy. She helped USC capture the 2021 NCAA Championship, the program’s fourth national title.
Weaver’s previous coaching experience includes stints with Industry Volleyball Club in Chatsworth, Calif., and with the Outrigger Canoe Club in Honolulu.
As a collegiate athlete, Weaver was a starter and two-time letterwinner at both UCLA (2014-16) and Hawai’i (2016-18). She was part of an NCAA semifinalist squad in 2016 (UCLA) and in both 2017-18 (Hawai’i). With the Wahine, Weaver and partner Carly Kan tied the record for most wins by a pair at the NCAA championship (4) in 2018 and were named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team.
Weaver was chosen as a VolleyMob.com All-American in 2018 and was a Volleyball Magazine All-America honorable mention in 2017. Weaver and Kan won 32 matches together in 2018, which ranked eighth in the UH record books. Weaver also teamed with Emily Maglio to win 29 matches in 2017; 10th in UH history. Weaver’s 61-win individual total ranks in Hawai’i's top 15 all-time and her .802 winning percentage (61-15 from 2017-18) is second all-time in Wahine career history.
Weaver and Maglio were 2017 All-Big West first-team selections; and Weaver and Kan were named to the second team in 2018. She and Maglio also received the Big West Pair of the Week award in 2017 (March 27). As a senior, Weaver was chosen for Academic All-Big West honors.
On the professional circuit, Weaver has played in 13 AVP events. She and partner Meaghan Wheeler hold a pair of career-best 21st-place finishes (San Francisco and Huntington Beach) through 11 different events and also finished 21st at the Belgium FIVB stop in 2019. Weaver and Wheeler are coached by former AVP pro Andrew Vázquez.
Weaver graduated with degrees in geography (BA) and human nutrition (BS) from the University of Hawai’i at Mãnoa in 2018. She has a specialization in sports wellness nutrition and plans to pursue a master’s degree in bio-kinesiology and sports science. She is fluent in conversational French and enjoys mountain biking and recreational running in her spare time.
