Jonathan Yim
- Title:
- Assistant Coach
Jonathan Yim, a seasoned basketball mind with over a decade of experience across the NBA and G League, was named an assistant coach by USC women's basketball head coach Lindsay Gottlieb ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Yim joins USC after serving as head coach of the Southland Sharks, where he led a dramatic program turnaround in 2025. In his first season at the helm, the Sharks improved from a four-win campaign to a 12–8 record, finishing first in assists percentage and second in offensive. He also helped the Sharks advance to the Grand Final (championship game) and host their first playoff game in nearly 10 years.
Prior to his time with the Southland Sharks, Yim spent several years in the NBA G League, including stints as an assistant coach with the Greensboro Swarm (2023–24) and South Bay Lakers (2021–23). Known for his offensive expertise, he helped guide South Bay to the top-ranked offense in the G League during the 2022–23 season and was instrumental with player development, helping the team lead the G League with 12 call-ups.
Yim’s NBA experience includes eight seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers (2013–21), where he served as a Player Development Coach and was the team Video Coordinator prior to that. During his tenure, Yim played a key role in developing individualized training regimens and pioneering the use of tablets on the bench, a first in the NBA that enhanced real-time player feedback and game adjustments. He began his NBA career with the Los Angeles Clippers as a video intern during their record-setting 56-win season in 2012–13.
A graduate of Cal State Fullerton, Yim earned his bachelor’s degree in history in 2007. He and his wife Amanda have one child, Jack.
