2020:
High School: Saunders prepped at Bellarmine Prep High in Santa Clara, where he was a four-time finalist at the 2019 NCSA Summer Championship. He was second in the 100m free (50.63) and 200m free (1:52.26), fifth in the 50m free (23.58) and seventh in the 50m fly (25.35) … He won the 200y free (1:35.08) at the 2019 California CIF State Championship and was second in the 100y free (43.74) for the second year in a row … He was a two-time champion at the 2019 California CIF Central Coast Section Championship in the 100y free (43.52) and 200y free (1:36.27) … Was a two-time finalist at the 2018 Speedo Winter Junior Champions - West in the 200y free (1:36.44) and 100y free (44.29) … A USA Swimming Scholastic All American, he competed at the 2019 U.S. Summer Nationals in the 50m 100m and 200m free.
Club: Santa Clara Swim.
Personal: He is a business administration major. He played prep water polo and only began focusing full time swimming in 2017.
SAUNDERS' PERSONAL RECORDS:
- As a core member of the relay teams, Saunders helped propel the teams at the NCAA Championships, as the 200-yard Medley placed 19th (1:23.77) and the 800-yard Freestyle placed 22nd (6:20.03)
- At Pac-12’s, finished 14th in the 200-yard Freestyle (1:34.66/1:34.51), 19th in the 50-yard Freestyle (19.74/19.76) and 25th in the 100-yard Freestyle (43.50)
- Also at Pac-12’s, Saunders appeared in three relays - 800-yard Freestyle relay (5th, 6:17.03), 200-yard Freestyle relay (5th, 1:17.37) and 400-yard Freestyle relay (5th, 2:52.92)
- First team CSCAA Scholar All-American
- Three-time conference B finalist at Pac-12’s, scoring three times for Troy. He finished ninth in the 50y free (19.89/19.81), was 12th in the 200y (1:36.01/1:35.95) and 100y free (43.31/43.54) and swam on the Trojan 400y free relay which was third.
- Against Utah (Feb. 12-13), Saunders was third in the 200y free (1:37.53) and fifth in the 100y free (44.78).
- Finished 14th in the 100 LCM Free (50.80) at the U.S. Olympic Team Swim Trials (Wave I)
2020:
- Provided depth for the Trojans in the sprint freestyle department, scoring as a 2020 freshman in the 100y free (43.56) at Pac-12s. After finishing 14th in the 100, he was also 21st in the 50y free (20.06) and 200y free (1:36.62).
- At the Art Adamson Invite, Saunders finished sixth in both the 200y free (1:37.12) and the 100y free (43.90).
