THIS SEASON: Matt Voell, a 2012 junior, is a strong sprint freestyler and butterflyer who looks to take on a bigger role as a dual-meet performer and post-season contributor in his second year with the Trojans.
2011: Voell, as 2011 sophomore transfer from North Carolina State, provided depth for the Trojans in the sprint free and fly. He swam the 50y and 100y free in exhibitions at the 2011 Pac-10 Championships.
NC STATE: Voell, as a freshman at North Carolina State in 2010, earned All-ACC Academic team honors with a 3.3 GPA. At the 2010 ACC Championships, he raced in the 100y fly, 100y back and 100y free.
HIGH SCHOOL: Voell prepped at Cherry Creek High in Denver, Colo., where he was a three-time state champion and the Colorado Swimmer of the Year in 2009.
CLUB/COACH: ACES Swim Club/Eric Craven.
PERSONAL: He was born on Sept. 25, 1990 ... He is a social science major.
