THIS SEASON: A 2019 senior co-captain, Billy Monjay has been a regular scoring contributor for the Trojans and should repeat the roll this season, working toward his first conference finalist spot. He is also one of the program’s top students in the classroom.
2018: Monjay earned his third straight CSCAA Scholar-All-American honorable mention honor and second straight Pac-12 All-Academic first team pick as a 2018 junior … He raced in three events at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships, finishing 15th in the 100y breast (PR 54.08) and 19th in the 200y breast (1:58.35). He was 28th in the 200y IM (1:50.93).
2017: Monjay earned Pac-12 All-Academic first team honors as a 2017 sophomore while providing solid depth in the breaststroke and 200y IM. Monjay posted season bests in the 100y (54.32) and 200y breast (1:57.72) -- both NCAA B cuts -- and the 200y IM (1:49.63) ... Monjay was named to a CSCAA Scholar-All-American honorable mention pick.
2016: Monjay, as a 2016 freshman, provided depth for the Trojans in the breast and IM and raced in one event at the Pac-12 Championships, taking 23rd in the 100y breast (55.20). He also posted exhibition swims in the 200y and 400y IM and the 200y breast ... He earned CSCAA Scholar All-America honorable mention status.
HIGH SCHOOL: Monjay prepped at Northwood High in Irvine, Calif., where he was a four-year CIF Southern Section Division I Championships finalist, including a third in the 100y breast at the 2014 meet ... At the 2015 Speedo Junior Nationals, he was 15th in the 100m breast and 17th in the 200m breast ... He reached the 200y breast final at the 2014 Speedo Winter Junior Championships and was a four-time finalist in the 100y and 200y breast and 200y and 400y IM at the 2014 Speedo Championships Series-California.
CLUB: SoCal Aquatics Association.
PERSONAL: Monjay is majoring in Industrial and Systems Engineering. He was also a prep water polo player at Northwood.
