THIS SEASON: Hong Kong native Leon D’Souza, a two-time NJCAA Division II Men's Golf champion, was one of USC’s most consistent players as a first-year junior transfer last year and is poised for a strong senior season in 2021.
2020: D’Souza, as a first-year junior college transfer, posted a team-high-tying stroke average of 70.67 with a team-best eight rounds in the 60s. He had three top 4 finishes (the only Trojan with multiple top 10 results), highlighted by a second-place result at the Southwestern Invitational where he carded an 11-under 205 (70-68-67) while leading USC to a tie for second … D’Souza tied for second at the Bill Cullum Invitational at 12-over 228 (73-74-81) and was fourth at the Prestige Individual Invitational at 10-under 206 (70-66-70) … In September of 2019, he played in the 2019 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championships. He posted a 10-over 154 (78-76), missing the cut by one stroke. Teammate Yuxin Lin won the event … Among his summer finishes saw a tie for 11th at the Sunnehanna Amateur at 6-under 274 (68-69-65-72), a tie for 13th at the Memorial Amateur at 3-under 213 (67-71-75) and a tie for 42nd at the Arizona Open at 5-under 211 (70-71-70).
SOUTH MOUNTAIN J.C.: D’Souza became the first golfer to win back-to-back NJCAA Division II men’s golf titles since 1993 when he pulled off the feat for South Mountain (Phoenix Ariz.) C.C. in 2018 and 2019, earning two-time NJCAA DII Men's Golf All-American honors … He was also selected as the two-time ACCAC Player of the Year and the 2019 NJCAA Region I Player of the Year. D'Souza captured four individual ACCAC titles throughout his time at South Mountain … Following his sophomore season, he was tabbed as the 2018-19 South Mountain David Rowlands Male Student-Athlete of the Year for excellence both on the course and in the classroom … He won the 2019 national title as a sophomore with a 4-under 284 at Swan Lake Golf Resort in Plymouth, Ind., leading his Cougars to a 19-stroke team national title. D’Souza, who also won both the 2018 and 2019 NJCAA Division II Region I titles, captured the 2018 individual title with an 8-under 280, leading the Cougars to fourth overall at the Glenlakes Golf Club in Foley, Ala … He earned NJCAA All-Academic honors and was a member of the 2017-18 NJCAA Men's Golf Academic Team of the Year.
AMATEUR CAREER: D’Souza played in both the 2018 and 2019 Asia-Pacific Amateur. He tied for 24th in the event in 2018 but missed the cut in 2019 … He represented Hong Kong in the Men’s World Amateur Team Golf Championships … D’Souza won the 2015 and 2017 Hong Kong Close and Mid Amateur Championship and tied for second in the event in 2016. He played as an amateur at the 2017 UBS Hong Kong, finishing 41st and played in the 2017 Clearwater Bay Open, taking 52nd.
PERSONAL: D’Souza is an economics major.
