Andre Carrera was named the USC men’s basketball director of sports performance by head men’s basketball coach Eric Musselman on May 16, 2024. Carrera comes to the USC men’s basketball program after serving as the strength and conditioning coach for the Santa Cruz Warriors in the NBA G-League and working with the Golden State Warriors since January of 2021.
While with Santa Cruz, Carrera designed athlete-specific programs to develop strength, agility and quickness and monitored on-court practices and training sessions. He communicated daily with the performance team and the coaching staff to implement practices to ensure the best performances. He worked closely with the Golden State Warriors staff to provide a consistent and beneficial training system for the athletes which mirrored the parent club’s training program.
Carrera has also served as a professor of exercise science for the San Diego Community College District since December of 2017.
Carrera was the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Charlotte Hornets in 2019 and 2020. He served in the same capacity with the New York Knicks for the 2018-19 season. During the 2017-18 season, he served as the director of strength and conditioning for the West Coast Elite Under Armour. Prior to that, he was the strength and conditioning intern at Washington in the summer of 2017.
Carrera has also worked as a performance coach at Point Loma Nazarene (2016-17) and at Velocity Sports Performance (2016-17).
Carrera holds a master’s degree in Kinesiology and holds several certifications including the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Registered Strength and Conditioning coach (RSCC) and Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES).
