Bio
THIS YEAR: Senior All-American Lanae-Tava Thomas begins her fourth season of competing in the sprints and jumps for the USC track and field team. She ranks eighth on USC's all-time 100m list, seventh on the 200m list with the Trojan freshman record, ninth on the long jump list and ran on the school record-setting 4x100m relay. She also ranks fourth indoors on USC's 60m and 200m lists, as well as holding the school freshman indoor 200m record.
2021: Recorded a long jump collegiate best of 20-11.25 (6.38m) to win at the Trojan Invitational, moving her to ninth on USC's all-time list. Â She finished fourth in the event with a wind-aided leap of 21-1.25w (6.43m) at the Pac-12 Championships. Â She finished 18th in the LJ at the West Preliminary Rounds. Â Thomas placed seventh in the 100m with a time of 11.24w at the NCAA Championships to earn All-America honors. Â Also earned All-Am honors in the 4x100m relay as USC won the title with a time of 42.88. Â She helped lead USC to the Pac-12 title by taking third in the 100m and 200m, fourth in the LJ and fitst in the 4x100m.
2020: Â Thomas set her indoor 60m PR in the semifinals of the MPSF Championships with a time of 7.20, then had a time of 7.28 to take second in the final to teammate TeeTee Terry. Â She did not compete outdoors before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19.
2019: Â Thomas set her 200m PR and USC freshman record of 22.65 (+1.3) in the NCAA Championship semifinals, then ran 22.74 (+1.3) to place sixth in the finals. Â She also set her 100m PR of 11.16 (+0.6) to finish ninth in the event in the NCAA semifinals. She ran the third led on USC's 4x100m relay which won the NCAA title with a school-record time of 42.21. She placed third in the 100m with a time of 11.28 (+0.5), second in the 200m with a time of 22.91 (+0.1) and won in the 4x100m relay with a time of 42.45 at the Pac-12 Championships. Â She had a LJ season best of 19-11.00 (6.07m) at the Jim Click Shootout. During the summer, she won the 200m with a time of 22.64 (+2.2w) at the USATF U20s. Â Indoors, she set her PR and USC freshman record of 22.91 at the Matador Qualifier. Â She went on to place fourth in the 200m at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a time of 23.06. Â She set her 60m PR of 7.28 at the Texas Tech Classic, which ranks tied for eighth on USC's all-time list.Â
HIGH SCHOOL:  Thomas graduated from Rush-Henrietta Senior High School in 2018.  She had the best long jump by a high schooler in 2018 with a jump of 21-8 done during the indoor season.  She won the 2017 USATF National Junior Olympics long jump title with a PR of 21-11/6.68m (+0.7) on July 30, 2017…that run ranks tied for seventh on the all-time high school list.  She was a high school All-American all four years and was All-State every season since eighth grade.  She became the first New York Section V athlete to win three gold medals at the state meet.  She was an 11-time state champion in the jumps and sprints.  She was the 2018 Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame Cynthia J. Wyatt Award winner, presented annually to the outstanding Female High School Athlete of the Year in the Niagara Association.  She also has PRs of 11.62 (11.57w) in the 100m and 23.42 in the 200m. She was an honor roll student all four years, a Black Scholar and President of the African American Leadership League.
PERSONAL:  Lanae-Tava was born on January 28, 2001 in Kingston, Jamaica.  Her parents are Michelle and Lance Thomas…She has two brothers, Howard Bailey and Giovanni Thomas and a sister, Lorriel Thomas…Says her pastimes include dancing, listening to music, networking and chit-chatting…Lists her sports hero as Shelly-Ann Fraiser-Pryce because she is extremely outgoing and nice, a hard worker, but jovial…Her favorite foods are any Jamaican cuisine and quesadillas…Her favorite television shows are Star, Criminal Minds and The President…Lists her favorite musical artists as Meek Mill, Beres Hammond, Alkaline, Megan Thee Stallion, Summer Walker, Koffee and Shenseea…Someday would like to tour Africa…Has always been involved with community service including volunteering at Open Door Mission and providing child care at church…After graduation she would like to continue running and go to medical school…She is a Human Biology major at USC.
