USC Men’s Golf Places Fifth at the Big Ten Championship
May 03, 2026 | Men's Golf
The Trojans had their best finish at a conference championship since 2018.
NORTH PLAINS, Ore. — The USC Men's Golf Team placed fifth at their second-ever Big Ten Championships, which concluded at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club on Sunday, May 3.
Battling record heat in the high 80s and humidity throughout the par-70, 7,003-yard course, the Trojans started the day in a tie for fourth, fell back to eighth, then climbed up to finish in fifth place with an 854 total (+14). The fifth-place result was good enough to be the program's best finish at a conference tournament since the Trojans won the 2018 Pac-12 Championship on their home course at Rolling Hills Country Club. It was also the program's best finish at a conference tournament under Head Coach Mark Hankins.
"We dug ourselves into a hole on the first nine holes on Friday and then fought our way out to post a respectable top-five finish," Head Coach Mark Hankins said. "The past two days, we have played well, but just couldn't avoid some big numbers that cut short our comeback."
"This team never quit with Jaden and Jack playing strong all week," Hankins added. "I'm very proud of them for making the all-tournament team, placing in the top five and challenging for individual Big Ten medalist honors. We finished strong as usual and passed some good teams to close out the tournament. We will learn from this and be ready for NCAA Regionals in a couple of weeks."
Sophomores Jack Buchanan and Jaden Dumdumaya led the way for the Trojans by tying for third with 207 totals (-3). That was a career-best result at a Big Ten Championships for both men. Furthermore, Dumdumaya became USC's first recipient of the Big Ten's Les Bolstad Award, which goes to the Big Ten player with the lowest stroke average throughout the season.
Dumdumaya's third round was tumultuous, as the sophomore pulled within two strokes of the leader, fell back, then made one final effort on the back side. His 72 (+2) had four birdies and six bogeys. The sophomore began the day by sinking a 30-foot put to save par on No. 2 before finding trouble with two bogeys on the front side. Then on the back side, Dumdumaya either bogeyed or birdied seven consecutive holes as he moved up and down the leaderboard. His third-place result was his team-leading fifth top-10 finish of the year.
Buchanan, meanwhile, started off the day in a tie for sixth but rose into the top five with two birdies on the front side. However, he ran into trouble as he approached the turn with a bogey and a double-bogey on Nos. 8 and 9. His lone bogey came on the par-3 No. 12, yet he made a final push with three birdies in the final five holes to finish with a 69 (-1). He was the only Trojan in the tournament with three rounds at par or better to earn his third-consecutive top-three finish.
Freshman Raghav Gulati wrapped up his first conference championship by moving up 12 places into a tie for 53rd. He fired a 71 (+1) on the final day to finish with a 219 (+9).
Rounding out the Trojans, junior Nicolas Dominguez tied for 74th with a 225 (+15), while Luke Stock tied for 77th with a 226 (+16).
UCLA fended off No. 12 Illinois to sweep the team and individual titles with a total of 832 (-8), while freshman Josh Kim won with a 202 (-8). Illinois was the only other school to have multiple players finish in the top three.
