USC Men's Volleyball Hitter Dillon Klein Earns Third AVCA National Player of the Week Honor
April 07, 2026 | Men's Volleyball
The Trojans’ All-American outside hitter averaged 6.21 points per set in wins over Stanford this week
LEXINGTON, Ky. – USC men's volleyball senior outside hitter Dillon Klein (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Loyola HS) was named the AVCA National Collegiate Player of the Week for the week of March 30-April 5, the AVCA announced on Tuesday, April 7.
Â
The award is Klein's third-career honor. He was chosen twice in 2025 (Feb. 4, March 18) and is just the fourth USC player to be selected for the national weekly award three or more times in his career. He joins Tony Ciarelli (4), Murphy Troy (3), and Brooks Billings (3) in that exclusive group. Klein (2025) and Ciarelli (2011) are the only two Trojans to have won more than once in the same season.Â
Â
It is the 23rd all-time award won by a Trojan and is the sixth under 11th-year head coach Jeff Nygaard. Klein was named the Molten/MPSF Offensive Player of the Week yesterday (April 6) for his eighth-career conference weekly honor. It was his third this season.
Â
In an other-worldly week for the All-American hitter, Klein hit .580 and collected 35 kills (5.00 kps) to average 6.21 points per set (43.5 points) in two wins over 14th-ranked Stanford. He recorded his 76th and 77th-career matches in double-digit kills and had his 13th contest with 20 or more kills. In the teams' first meeting, Klein had 15 kills and hit .478 with three service aces and a solo block to total 19.0 points. He then had 20 kills and hit .667 with four blocks (one solo) and a pair of service aces in the rematch for 24.5 points. In the second set of the rematch, he attacked 10 times and had 10 kills to hit an astonishing 1.000 in the frameÂ
Â
Fourth-ranked USC (16-3, 8-2 MPSF) leaves the state of California for the first time this spring for a pair of matches at 10th-ranked BYU (19-8, 6-4 MPSF). The teams will meet at Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah, for a 7 p.m. MT (6 p.m. PT) match on Friday (April 10) that will be shown on B1G+ and on byu.tv. The teams then meet for a rematch on Saturday (April 11) at 8 p.m. MT (7 p.m. PT) that will be shown live nationally on Big Ten Network.
