Michal Chmielewski Takes Third In 200Y Butterfly On Final Day Of Big Ten Championships

MADISON, Wis. - The USC men's swimming and diving team concluded competition at the Big Ten Championships on Saturday. The Trojans had five championship appearances on the weekend with three podium finishes as USC took seventh place with 707.5 points.
Michal Chmielewski highlighted the night with his second podium finish of the championship meet. Chmielewski registered a season best time of 1:40.19 in the 200 butterfly to finish third in the A Final.
Diego Balbi and Krzysztof Chmielewski finished fifth and sixth respectively in the B final of the 200y butterfly to wrap up the event.
Laurent Gosselin-Paradis was the other championship finalist of the evening for the Trojans. Gosselin-Paradis recorded 352.25 points to finish fifth in the platform diving event. Luc Goertzen competed in the consolation final and took second with a score of 335.95.
In the first set of finals of the evening Filip Mujan placed fourth in the C final of the 200y IM. Sanberk Oktar and Keller Morgan posted times of 1:43.24 and 1:46.48 to take third and seventh in the B final.
Oliver Sogaard-Andersen won the B final of the 100y free with an NCAA qualifying time of 42.54.
The Trojans had four representatives in the 200y backstroke to round out the individual events. Drew Huston (1:44.68), Vaggelis Makrygiannis (1:44.76) and Emiliano Zamudio (1:45.20) finished sixth, seventh and eighth in the C final. Griffin O'Leary took fifth after turning in a time of 1:42.30.
In the final event of the meet, the quartet of Sogaard-Andersen, Michal Chmielewski, Jan Bialecki and Makrygiannis posted a time of 2:49.84 to finish fifth in the 400y freestyle relay.
The Trojans will now turn their focus to the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships and the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships.
