No. 8 USC Women's Tennis Edged by No. 5 UCLA in Friday Rivalry Match

UCLA seized control in doubles play, striking first at the No. 3 position where Chung/Crossley defeated Emma Charney and Immi Haddad, 6-2. The doubles point was clinched shortly after on Court 1, with No. 62 Center/Fakih earning a 6-3 win over Lily Fairclough and Jana Hossam. The No. 2 match featuring Dani Borruel and Eugenia Zozaya was left unfinished at 5-4 once the point was decided.
In singles, the Bruins extended their lead with the first result coming at No. 2, where No. 49 Mayu Crossley posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Immi Haddad to make it 2-0. Bianca Fernandez followed with a straight-set victory over No. 39 Emma Charney at No. 4, 6-4, 6-3, pushing the margin to 3-0.
The deciding point came at the top of the lineup when Anne Christine Lutkemeyer held off No. 32 Jana Hossam in a tight second set, prevailing 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) to clinch the match for UCLA.
USC answered at the No. 3 spot, where No. 89 Eugenia Zozaya delivered a ranked win over No. 122 Kate Fakih, 6-4, 7-5, to put the Trojans on the board.
With the team result secured, the final two matches were played out. At No. 5, Ahmani Guichard regrouped after dropping the second set to defeat Krisha Mahendran, 6-3, 1-6, 6-1. The last match to finish came on Court 6, where Olivia Center edged Dani Borruel in a match tiebreak, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7).
USC will have another chance to beat the Bruins later this spring as the two programs will meet during conference play at the end of March.Â
