USC Lacrosse Holds Off UC Davis to Grab 12-11 Road Win

DAVIS, Calif. – The USC lacrosse team (3-1) collected its first road victory in a 12-11 finish over UC Davis (1-3) at the UC Davis Health Stadium on Friday, Feb. 20.

- Jr. attacker Emma Bunting produced her fourth-career hat trick game (first of the season) with three goals.
- Redshirt Jr. midfielder Hannah Barron scored two goals and picked up a ground ball.
- Redshirt Jr. midfielder Hollis Mulry scored a pair of goals, picked up two ground balls, and caused a turnover.Â
- So. midfielder Alex May scored twice and had an assist on one of Mulry's goals.
- Jr. midfielder Anna Regan grabbed three draw controls, picked up two ground balls, and scored a goal.
- Sr. midfielder Casey Roberts scored one and had the helper on one for two points.
- Sr. defender Asjia Roberson picked up four ground balls.
- For the Aggies, Lauren Picardi didn't start the game but led UC Davis in scoring with five goals on just six shots. Jane Fox had the hat trick with three goals and picked up a ground ball. Catie McCauley scored two goals. Emily Altshuler had seven saves in the cage and wire-to-wire between the pipes.
- Trojans scored the first two goals of the game—one each from Barron and Mulry—both unassisted. From there, Picardi scored three of the next four as part of a 5-0 Aggie run and helped UC Davis hold a 3-2 edge at the end of the first 15 minutes. May's goal three minutes into the second quarter sparked a 6-0 response from the Women of Troy which bled into the second half and had USC in front, 8-5, at the break.
- UC Davis won the third, 4-2, with two of the goals coming from Picardi and trimmed the USC lead to just one goal at 10-9 entering the fourth. Bunting and Roberts scored back-to-back goals to stem the tide and put the Trojans in front, 12-9, with just under 12 minutes to play. The teams went back and forth scoreless for 11 minutes until McCauley and Fox scored a pair of goals with under a minute to play to put the pressure on the Trojans, but USC held on for the win.Â
- USC heads to the South Bay to take on No. 2-ranked Stanford (4-0) on Sunday (Feb. 22) at 1 p.m. PT at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium in Stanford, Calif. The game will be shown live on ESPN+.
- USC improved to 10-0 all-time in meetings with UC Davis. Previously, the Trojans' smallest margin of victory over the Aggies was five goals.
- The Trojans won their first road game of the season.
- USC moved to 21-7 in Northern California cities including a 4-0 mark in Davis.
- The 12-11 win was USC's 21st one-goal victory. The Trojans improved to 21-17 in one-goal games which includes a 5-9 mark in overÂtime contests. They are now 16-8 in regulation-time one-goal margins.Â
