USC Lacrosse Falls to No. 22 Denver

The Trojans played their first game under the lights at Rawlinson Stadium
LOS ANGELES – The USC lacrosse team (1-1) fell to 22nd-ranked Denver (1-0) by a 15-4 count at Rawlinson Stadium on Thursday, Feb. 12.

Four different Trojans scored goals including one from free position by junior midfielder Anna Regan. The Pioneers scored three goals in the span of a minute and led, 5-0, by the end of the opening quarter. Redshirt junior midfielder Hollis Mulry had the first of three USC goals to start the second quarter, but Denver answered with three more to lead, 8-1. Sophomore attacker Vivian Leuthold and Regan scored consecutive USC goals, but the Pioneers equaled the effort to go to halftime up by seven, 10-3.

The Pioneers scored the only two goals of the third quarter to push their lead to 12-3 and then scored two more to open the fourth to go out to a 14-3 lead. Redshirt junior midfielder Hannah Barron ended the 6-0 Denver scoring run with a goal with 5:13 left to play but the Pioneers' Olivia Ripple collected her fifth goal of the game to make it a 15-4 final.

Denver out-shot USC, 29-14, and had a 15-8 edge in the center circle. The Trojans picked up 11 ground balls including grabbing five of them in the third quarter to keep the Pioneers at bay. Denver's Ripple scored five goals to lead the Pioneers while Ryan Dineen had the hat trick and an assist. Alex Dorr led all players with seven draw controls.

The Women of Troy are back in action on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 15) in a 1 p.m. PT game against No. 24 Brown (0-0). The game will be shown live on Big Ten Plus.Â
