No. 2 Women’s Water Polo Downs Claremont-Mudd-Scripps On Day 1 Of Triton Invitational

SAN DIEGO, Calif.- The USC women's water polo team started the weekend off at the Triton Invitational hosted by UC San Diego bright and early Friday morning. The Women of Troy put on yet another dominant performance fueled by a strong offensive attack and a stellar showing from Anna Reed in goal to earn the win over the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas.

The Trojans were off and running from the opening sprint. Morgan Netherton won the possession and Hannah Carver scored the first goal of the game.
Not wanting to fall too far behind, the Athenas scored their first goal of the game to make it a 3-1 game in favor of the Trojans.
From there, USC rattled off eight unanswered goals as Reed made five first half saves and shutout Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the second quarter as the score stood at 11-1.
The Women of Troy's offense caught fire right away to kick off the third frame.
Meghan McAninch opened the scoring for the second half with her first goal of the contest. Rachel Gazzaniga, Hannah Carver, Maggie Johnson and Morgan Netherton all found the back of the cage for a five goal run for the Trojans.
The Athenas were able to find the back of the cage for the second time in the game to try and halt the USC attack.
McAninch scored with just 30 seconds left in the third before rattling off three straight goals to begin the fourth for five on the day as the Trojans closed out the game 23-4.
