No. 19 USC Women's Tennis Outlasts ASU, 4-3

Trojans improve to 3-0 in dual match play.
TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 19 ranked USC women's tennis team emerged victorious over Arizona State on Sunday, Jan. 18, outlasting the Sun Devils 4-3 at the Whiteman Tennis Center.Â
USC's powerful pairs got to work early in Tempe, with Emma Charney and Immi Hadded putting the Trojans in the lead with a 6-0 win on court three. ASU responded, claiming court two as No. 51 ranked Jana Hossam and Krisha Mahendran fell 6-4 to Tverijonaite/Ovrootsky. With all eyes on center court, No. 6 Dani Borruel and Lily Fairclough got to work, swiftly beating ASU's Evans/Taylor 6-2. The Women of Troy claimed the early point and held a one score advantage heading into singles play.Â
USC and ASU exchanged punches in individual play, with the match ultimately being decided on court four. No. 74 Krisha Mahendran got to work on court four and took the first set 6-1. The freshman then dropped the second set 2-6 to force a third with the match on the line. Mahendran came back to take the third 6-4 and clinch the match for the Women of Troy. The win marked the first dual match victory of Mahendran's career.Â
USC returns to action tomorrow against Arizona. First serve in Tucson is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. PT.Â
