Michal Chmielewski Sets USC Record As Trojans Battle Cal

LOS ANGELES- The Friday afternoon meet against the Cal Bears was highlighted by a massive swim from Michal Chmielewski in the 100y butterfly. The junior recorded a time of 45.08 to set a new USC record in the event, breaking the previous record that was set by Santo Condorelli in 2018.
In a tough battle against Cal, the Trojans came up just short on the women's side by a score of 144-156. Troy was edged by Cal 178-122.
Michal was part of the winning 400y medley relay squad that took the first Trojan event win of the day along with Vaggelis Makrygiannis, Junhao Chan and Oliver Sogaard-Andersen. The posted time of 3:04.04 set a new pool record.
Michal also went on to win the 200y butterfly to cap off a strong performance against the Bears.
Minna Abraham earned the first win for the Women of Troy on the day in the 200y free after finishing the event with a time of 1:41.69. Abraham was a double winner on the day, also claiming victory in the 50y free and meeting the NCAA qualifying standard time with a mark of 22.06.
Makrygiannis touched first in the 100y back for the second weekend in a row, coming in at 46.20 to win the first individual event of the day for Troy.Â
Bella Brito won the 100y breast thanks to a time of 59.85 and met the NCAA qualifying standard for the event. Brito took home both breaststroke events after finishing first in the 200y breast with a time of 2:10.22.
Justina Kozan had a stellar showing, earning wins in three events. Kozan took the 200y fly after touching the wall at 1:54.90. She followed that up with a victory in the 500y free, beating the second place finisher by over one second. Kozan wrapped up the day with a first place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:07.46. The senior out of Brea, Calif. met the NCAA qualifying standard in all three events.Â
On the boards, Kate Miller took first on the women's 3-meter with a score of 307.43. Robert Gref posted a score of 307.65 on the men's 1-meter to win the event. Laurent Gosselin-Paradis finished closely behind in second with a score of 300.98.

The Trojans will host the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday morning with the meet scheduled for 11:00 a.m.. The USC swimming and diving team will honor its 13 seniors before the meet begins.Â
