Garland Named Big Ten Women's Field Athlete Of The Week

Trojans earn ninth conference weekly outdoor track and field honor

USC Track and Field's Reese Garland was named the Big Ten Women's Field Athlete of the Week for April 2-April 9, it was announced by the conference office today (April 9). USC track and field athletes have now won nine of the 18 weekly awards during the outdoor season.

The sophomore thrower Garland won the women's discus throw with a PR of 181-11 (55.46m) at the Triton Invitational on April 5. That mark is the best throw in the Big Ten this season and ranks 20th in the country. The Oak Park, Ill. native also took second in the discus throw with a mark of 178-1 (54.30m) at the Battle at the Beach on April 4. That mark is the third-best throw by any Big Ten woman this season. Garland also competed in the shot put at the Battle at the Beach and placed fourth with a mark of 46-7.50 (14.21m).

Trojans earning Big Ten track and field weekly honors during the outdoor season have been: Racquil Broderick (M-Field, March 26), Ashley Erasmus (W-Track & W-Freshman, March 26), Reese Garland (W-Field, April 9), Elias Gerald (M-Co-Field, April 2), Garrett Kaalund (M-Track, Aprl 2), Christine M. Mallard (W-Track, March 26), Yougendy Mauricette (M-Track, March 26) and Madison Whyte (W-Track, April 2).
