The Trojans swept Penn State as they claimed their sixth win in conference play
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – USC men's tennis (12-6, 6-2 Big Ten) rolled Penn State (11-10, 0-8 Big Ten), 4-0, in the opening match of its weekend road trip, sweeping the Nittany Lions on their home court on Friday, April 4.
The Trojans entered the weekend coming off an electric 4-3 victory against UCLA Tuesday night. USC wasted no time in the dual, bringing the momentum from Tuesday's victory into the doubles competition. Sophomore Volodymyr Iakubenko and senior Oscar Weightman finished first with a 6-3 win on court two, while graduate Tristan Bradley and senior Peter Makk clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 triumph on court one.
In singles play, senior Karl Lee continued his impressive season with a straight-set win on court four to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead. Lee has won his last five matches and is 11-3 in dual competition, with just one loss in Big Ten play. Freshman Nathan Trouve put USC within one with a swift 7-5, 6-1 victory on court two. Freshman Connor Church clinched the victory for the Trojans with a straight-set victory on court five, improving to 7-3 in dual competition and 5-1 in conference play.
USC will now travel to Columbus, Ohio, to face a tough battle with No. 3 Ohio State. The first serve against the Buckeyes will take place at 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 6.
