USC Swimming Wraps Up Second Day of Competition At NCAA Championships

Federal Way, Wash. - Trojan swimmers Claire Tuggle and Justina Kozan earned All-America honors in the 500y freestyle to highlight the second evening of competition at the NCAA Championships.
Through the second evening of competition, USC sits in 14th place with 35 points. Virginia leads the way with 225 points, followed by Stanford in second and Texas in third.
Trojans Tuggle and Kozan earned spots in the consolation final of the 500y freestyle following strong preliminary performances. Tuggle finished third in the consolation final in 3:37.23, while Kozan was eighth in 4:41.01. With their finishes, both earned All-American Second-Team honors.
During prelims, Ashley McMillan finished 25th in the 200y IM (1:56.26) and Macky Hodges was 58th (2:00.16).
USC's 50y freestylers Caroline Famous (22.06) and Vasilissa Buinaia (22.40) finished 28th and 60th, respectively.
USC's 200y freestyle relay closed out the evening with a 21st place finish as Caroline Famous, Minna Abraham, Macky Hodges and Vasilissa Buinaia combined to clock a 1:28.46.
Action continues tomorrow at 10 a.m PT with the second session of prelims. The morning session will include the 400y IM, 100y back, 100y breast, 200y free and 100y fly. Trojan Kate Miller will also make her NCAA debut tomorrow in the women's 3-meter diving competition at 12 p.m. PT.
