The Trojans won two straight matches from the bottom of the lineup as they won 4-3 in Westwood
LOS ANGELES – USC men's tennis (6-3) pulled out their second-straight one-score match as it took down UCLA (2-6), 4-3 in the first leg of the Crosstown Showdown on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
The bottom of their lineup led the Trojans as senior Karl Lee and freshman Matteo Morazzi won from the No. 5 and 6 courts, respectfully. Lee provided the final stamp, as he was the clincher for USC, winning 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 to extend the Trojans win streak to three.
Entering the day, USC had won the doubles point six times in the first eight matches, and today was no different. Morazzi and fellow freshman Nathan Trouve won the first match in doubles for USC at 6-3, and while it dropped the match on court No. 2, the duo of graduate student Tristan Bradley and senior Peter Makk improved to 5-1 with a 7-5 win.
With a one-point advantage, the Trojans were able to continue their winning streak, as they won three of the six singles matches. After losing the first match on court No. 3, No. 82-ranked Trouve defeated his second-ranked individual of the season with a defeat of No. 118 Kaylan Bigun 7-5, 6-2. The Bruins took the next two before Morazzi took down his first-ranked individual by defeating No. 99-ranked Aadarsh Tripathi 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. Lee finalized the scoring in the third set with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 victory.
