SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
NEW YEAR, NEW TROJANS
USC Men's Basketball heads into the second season of Big Ten Conference play under Head Coach Eric Musselman. After another offseason with the transfer portal, the Trojans return one scholarship player from last year's roster in Terrance Williams II. USC welcomes 10 players from the transfer portal and three freshmen to the team.
THE BEST OF THE TRANSFER PORTAL
USC comes into this season with one of the best transfer portal classes in the country, ranking in the top 10 with numerous outlets. This ranking comes with the addition of Chad Baker-Mazara, who led the Auburn Tigers in the Final Four last season, and Rodney Rice, who made a Sweet 16 appearance with Big Ten foe Maryland.
Along with those additions, USC added another player with NCAA Tournament experience in the reigning Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year Amarion Dickerson, who contributed 25 points in the Round of 64 against Alabama. The Trojans also snagged the Big South's Newcomer of the Year in Jordan Marsh, who averaged 18.8 points per game at UNC Asheville. USC also found the answer for rim protection in Gabe Dynes, who transferred from Youngstown State after leading the nation in blocks last season.
Adding onto the list of strong players joining from the portal include Utah transfer Ezra Ausar, Virginia transfer Jacob Cofie, Dartmouth transfer Ryan Cornish, Sacramento State transfer EJ Neal Jr. and Samford transfer Jaden Brownell.
MUSSELMAN IN YEAR TWO
Coach Musselman has proven himself as a winner in his second season at his last two colleges. At both Nevada and Arkansas, Musselman has accumulated a 53-14 record, which comes out to a .791-win percentage in that time. Along with that, both of his teams made it into the NCAA Tournament in his second season.
OTHER NOTES
USC Men's Basketball has an overall record of 69-31 on Opening Night over the last 100 years. Last season, USC won its opening night game against Chattanooga 77-51.
This is the start of the second season under Head Coach Eric Musselman. The Trojans finished non-conference play 8-3 last season.
