*USC was extremely disciplined and recorded just 1 penalty for 5 yards, a season low.
*USC head coach Lincoln Riley: "The physicality was about the same [between USC and Notre Dame]. If you're giving up plays in the run game, you look to see are we getting moved backward, is the line of scrimmage getting reset or are we not doing a good enough job in gap control and assignments…and that's exactly what it was. Against a good team with two phenomenal running backs, you give them a couple of 'gimmes' on top of being a battle the entire game. That's where the run defense was and those were our biggest struggles throughout the game. It was really assignment based. We didn't play nearly as in-sync as we did the previous week. The physicality, effort and all that was about the same. It was a physical battle. They won some reps, we won some reps. There was a lot of stalemates right there at the line. When you have two good groups going at it, that's what you see. We've got to play cleaner. We were motivated and ready to play, but in those games, you have to combine that with playing really good ball and being really in-sync."
*USC ranks No. 8 on the ESPN Football Power Index.
