USC Men’s Tennis Returns to Action with Spring Doubleheader
January 18, 2025 | Men's Tennis
The Trojans will start their debut season in the Big Ten with two nonconference duals against UC Irvine and San Diego State
LOS ANGELES — USC men's tennis is officially back and prepped for a fresh start, as it competes in a doubleheader against UC Irvine and San Diego State on Monday, Jan. 20, starting at 11 a.m. at David X. Marks Tennis Stadium.
With a roster of fresh faces, the Trojans will look to seniors Peter Makk and Karl Lee to hold the leadership roles as they kick off the spring. Makk was a staple at center court for the Trojans in the 2024 season and added another ranked win this fall with a victory over the No. 7 player in the country at ITA All-Americans. Lee also grabbed a ranked win against the country's No. 58 this fall, alongside a quarterfinal doubles appearance at the ITA West Sectional tournament.
Joining the seniors is a pair of returners from last season, junior Oscar Weightman and sophomore Volodymyr Iakubenko. While neither player saw action this fall, they will both look to be contending members of the Trojan lineup. They will be joined by a trio of Trojans who made their debuts this fall, with graduate Tristan Bradley (8-4) and freshmen Connor Church (7-2) and Niels Hoffman (11-4) all making a statement in singles play.
Rounding out the Trojans' roster are freshmen Matteo Morazzi and Nathan Trouve. Both players will debut in Cardinal and Gold this spring since they joined USC after the fall season. The two standout stars have been ranked inside the ITF Juniors Top-100 and have won titles as a doubles pair on the junior circuit.
Monday's doubleheader will give the Trojans a strong test and an opportunity to make a statement to start the season. They will face one ranked opponent: the Anteaters' No. 31 Noah Zamora.
The match against UC Irvine will begin at 11 a.m., and the dual with SDSU will start at 3 p.m. Both matches will be played at David X. Marks Stadium.
