No. 17 USC Lacrosse Clips the Owls' Wings in a 12-7 Victory

The Women of Troy avenged their inaugural year lose (2013) against Temple (L, 12-7)
LOS ANGELES - The 17-ranked USC lacrosse team (6-2) downs Temple (5-3), 12-7, on Friday, Mar. 8 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calf.

The Women of Troy are back at it next weekend as they face UC Davis at 12 p.m. PT in the Pac-12 Opener on Saturday (March 16) at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif.

KEY PLAYERS:
- Senior Maggie Brown led the Trojans in goals scoring four times.
- Senior Shelby Tilton recorded three of Women of Troy's goals, making 22 goals this season.
- Redshirt junior Isabelle Vitale racked up seven points with three goals and four assists.
- Freshman Anna Regan once again dominated in the draw circle with eight draw controls. She now ranks tied for 10th in USC history for career draws at 65.
- The Trojans came out strong against the Owls, as Vitale scored the first goal less than three minutes into the first quarter. The Owls responded with a goal at minute 10, bringing the score to 1-1. This tie didn't last long as junior Maddie Dora scored with an assist from graduate student Ella Heaney. It wouldn't be a quarter of Women of Troy lacrosse without a mention of Tilton, who snagged her 20th goal of the season. Defensively these Trojans had a good run, causing three turnovers and picking up seven ground balls. The quarter ended with USC up 3-1.
- The second quarter saw an aggressive start for the Owls as they scored two goals in the first five minutes, evening the score to 3-3. Regan maintained three of the four draw controls in this quarter and Tilton brought USC up 4-3 to end the second and carry them Women of Troy to a halftime lead.
- These Trojans dominated in the third both offensively and defensively as they started to break away from the Owls. Brown scored all four of her goals in this quarter, alongside Vitale who also had a goal. USC had five out of nine draw controls. These Women of Troy also snatched five turnovers and five ground balls. The score was 9-6 heading into the final quarter.
- The Women of Troy attacked the field in the fourth as they scored three more goals and only allowed one. Tilton, Vitale, and Murphy all brought in a goal for USC. The Trojans snatched three ground balls and three turnovers in this quarter. The Women of Troy ended the game with a solid lead 12-7 over the Owls.

GAME NOTES:
- In the inaugural year of USC Women's Lacrosse, Temple beat the Women of Troy 12-7, but this year we've turned the tables and beat them 12-7.
- In honor of International Women's Day, all the music played at this game was by female artists.
- USC is now 72-19 all-time in home games and 2-1 at Dignity Health Sports Park.
