USC Wins Four Events And Sets Three Meet Records During First Day Of The Ken Shannon Last Chance Invitational

Brackins Jr. sets meet and facility 60m H record, Williams meet 60m dash record, Carter meet 200m record
Johnny Brackins Jr. won the men's 60m hurdles, Travis Williams the men's 60m dash, Jassani Carter the women's 200m and Max Thomas the men's 200m during the first day of the Ken Shannon Last Chance Invitational held at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash. today (Feb. 23).
The Trojans will begin action at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the final day of the Ken Shannon Last Chance Invitational with the women's triple jump and men's high jump.
- Brackins Jr. won the men's 60m hurdles with a meet and Dempsey Indoor facility record-time of 7.55. He broke the previous facility record of 7.60 set in 2016 by three-time U.S. 110m hurdles champion and two-time Olympic 110m hurdles finalist Devon Allen. Brackins Jr.'s time leads all NCAA performers this season and moved him from tied for second to second on USC's all-time 60m hurdles list. He only trails Tade Ojora's school-record time of 7.53. Di'Niko Bates placed third in the final with a time of 7.85. Both Brackins Jr. and Bates also broke the previous meet record of 7.77 in the prelims, Brackins Jr. with a time of 7.57 and Bates a PR-tying 7.76.
- Travis Williams won the men's 60m dash title with meet record-time of 6.52. His time ranks third on the NCAA descending order list this indoor season and moved him from seven to second on USC's all-time list. He now sits just behind school record-holder Davonte Burnett's time of 6.50. Zachariah Branch placed sixth in the final with a time of 6.76. Williams had a then-PR of 6.58 and Branch a PR of 6.74 in the prelims to advance second and fifth respectively.
- Jassani Carter won the women's 200m with a time of 23.61 and Chioma Okonkwo placed fourth with a time of 24.24. Carter's time set the meet record, previously held by USC's Carol Rodriguez of 23.75 set in 2006.
- Max Thomas won the men's 200m dash with a time of 21.03.
- Simone Ballard ran a personal-best time of 8.28 to place fourth in the women's 60m hurdles final, while Nonah Waldron took seventh with a time of 8.48. Ballard had a time of 8.40 and Waldron a time of 8.42 in the prelims to advance seventh and eighth respectively to the final.
- Okonkwo also placed fifth in the women's 60m dash final with a time of 7.47. She advanced out of the prelims fifth with a time of 7.46.
- Zane Golpariani placed fifth in the men's 5000m race with a time of 14:37.86. It is believed to be the first-ever 5000m race run indoors by a Trojan male.
