No. 4 USC Women's Soccer Team Falls in PK's to Rutgers at Big Ten Tournament

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Despite dominating possession and outshooting Rutgers 26-11, the No. 4 USC women's soccer team was ousted from the Big Ten Tournament on penalty kicks Thursday afternoon in St. Louis.
The semifinal match ended in a 1-1 draw, but the Scarlett Knights moved on thanks to a 3-0 PK shootout. USC moves to 15-1-3 with the draw while Rutgers moves to 11-3-5. The Trojans are still unbeaten in their last 13 games.
USC broke a scoreless tie early in the second half when Simone Jackson grabbed a rebound deep in the area and fired home a shot to make it 1-0 in the 47th minute. The advantage lasted until the 52nd minute when Rutgers found an equalizer despite being a player down due to a red card.
USC outshot Rutgers 13-5 in the second half and 8-0 in overtime, as the Trojans had several near point-blank shots saved by the Scarlett Knight keeper, Olivia Bodmer.
Bodmer was credited with eight saves in the game and then went on to save all three penalty kicks she faced. USC's Laurence Gladu got a hand on two of the three shots she faced in the shootout, but both deflected into the net.

47' – USC: Simone Jackson (assisted by Hannah Griffin) – Griffin had a shot blocked but the bouncing ball fell to Jackson just outside the six-yard box, and Jackson fired home a shot inside the right post.
52' – RUT: Ashley Baran (assisted by Sydney Urban, Emily Mason) – Mason sent a long ball towards the area and Urban flicked a header on for Baran, who ran it down and sent a shot across goal and inside the far right post from deep near the end line.
