No. 20 USC Women's Volleyball Tops Indiana in Four

The Trojans got 20 kills and a career-high 18 digs from Ally Batenhorst in a win over the Hoosiers
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 20-ranked USC women's volleyball team (17-7, 9-5 Big Ten) downed Indiana (12-12, 5-9) in four sets (26-24, 17-25, 25-15, 26-24) at Wilkinson Hall on Sunday, Nov. 10. In her return to her alma mater, graduate defensive specialist Grae Gosnell opened the night by singing the Star Spangled Banner in front of 1,737 fans.

- Gr. OH Ally Batenhorst led all players with 21.0 points gathered on 20 kills (3e, 48att) and .354 hitting to go with a career-high 18 digs with two blocks. It was her third-career match with 20 or more kills and was her eighth double-double this season and the 10th of her career. Batenhorst has reached double-digit kills in 22 of the Trojans' 24 matches and has recorded double-digit points in all 24 contests with six over the 20-point mark.
- Sr. S Mia Tuaniga put up 46 assists and set the Trojans to .317 hitting—the team's seventh match over .300—and had nine digs, five blocks, four kills (.333) and a service ace.
- Redshirt Jr. MB Tyrah Ariail had 10 kills to reach double digits for the second time this season and hit .769 with no errors on 13 swings. She also led the Trojans with six blocks (two solo) and had four digs.
- Redshirt Fr. MB Leah Ford put up eight kills (1e, 16att) on .438 hitting and totaled five blocks and three digs.
- Fr. OPP Jadyn Livings scored nine kills and had 11 digs.
- Redshirt So. OH Adonia Faumuina put up eight kills with five digs.
- Jr. LIB Gala Trubint posted 13 digs for her 63rd-career match in double digits.
- For the Hoosiers, Candela Alonso-Corcelles and Avry Tatum led with 11 kills each. Alonso-Corcelles also had 12 digs and a pair of service aces. Ramsey Gary had 11 digs and a service ace. Camryn Haworth served four aces and dished out 31 assists to go with four digs and three kills.
- USC out-hit Indiana, .312 to .145, and had the edge in kills (60-43), assists (52-39), digs (68-56), and blocks (12-8). The Hoosiers had more service aces by a 9-3 margin and had a 27-11 advantage in points won from the service line.
- The Trojans led set one by as many as four at 17-13 behind a 5-1 run, but the Hoosiers replied with a 5-1 burst of their own to tie the score at 18-all. USC stepped in front two more times but were caught at 24-all for the 14th tie of the frame. Despite an 11-3 deficit in the service game, the Trojans pulled out a 26-24 win on a service error by Indiana and a kill by Livings to top things off. USC hit .500 in the set with 19 kills (2e) on 34 swings. Batenhorst led the way with seven kills and six of the Trojans' 18 digs in the opening frame.
- Indiana served four aces and had four blocks in the second set to hold the Trojans to a .214 hitting percentage with 11 kills (5e) on 28 attempts. Batenhorst added four more kills, but IU hit .423 with 13 kills (2e) on 26 swings to claim a 25-17 win and evened the match at one set apiece.
- USC trailed by two at 11-9 in the third but would elect to turn on the jets and flipped the board for a 13-11 lead on a 4-0 run. From there, the Trojans rolled to a 25-15 win with four blocks and a pair of service aces with .357 hitting on 13 kills (3e) and 28 attempts. USC dug up 11 balls to help hold the Hoosiers to negative .074 hitting with six kills on 27 swings (8e).
- The Trojans racked up seven blocks in the fourth set to hold Indiana to a .086 hitting percentage (13k, 8e, 58att) and were led by six more kills from Batenhorst who also had eight digs. Tuaniga dished out 15 assists and helped the Trojans hit .216 with 17 kills on 51 attempts. Faumuina collected four of her kills in the fourth and Livings added three more.
- USC returns home to Wisconsin (18-5, 12-2 Big Ten) on Thursday (Nov. 14) in an 8 p.m. PT start at Galen Center. The match will be shown live on Big Ten Network and features a Trojan Dark Mode promo. The Trojans then take on Oregon (18-5, 10-4) on Sunday (Nov. 17) at 1 p.m. PT in a match that will be streamed on Big Ten Plus.
- USC improved to 3-0 all-time against Indiana and faced the Hoosiers in a non-neutral location for the first time.
- The Women of Troy go to 12-1 all-time in the state of Indiana.
- The Trojans reached double-digit blocks for the 16th time this season (12.0).
- In a homecoming, graduate defensive specialist Grae Gosnell returned to play at her alma mater. Former Hoosier assistant coach Spencer McLachlin also returned to Wilkinson Hall for the first time since joining the Trojans. On the other side of the net, four-time USC NCAA champion and two-time beach volleyball All-American Delaynie Maple faced USC for the first time since electing to take her grad transfer season with the Hoosiers.
