USC Rowing Kicks Off Season at Head of the American
October 24, 2024 | Women's Rowing
LOS ANGELES — In its debut regatta of this year, USC women's rowing will send 17 boats to compete at Head of the American on Saturday (Oct. 26). The Women of Troy will enter 10 boats in the Women's Collegiate 2-, four boats in the Women's Collegiate 8+ and four boats in the Women's Collegiate 4+.
Additionally, the Head of the American marks the exciting debut of head coach Kelsie Chaudoin, who joined the Trojan Family in June 2024.
"This season is full of changes for USC Rowing, with a new coaching staff and nearly half the team made up of freshmen," Chaudoin said. "The team's ability to roll with it all has been incredible, and seeing the buy-in, trust and progress from these women thus far has been really exciting."Â
The Trojans' Women's Collegiate 2- A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, and J boats will launch first at 11:12 a.m. PST on Saturday (Oct. 26). They will compete against boats from Oregon State, UCLA, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, Portland, San Diego and Washington State.
USC's Women's Collegiate 8+ A, B, C, and D boats race at 2:19 p.m. PST. The Women of Troy will take on boats from Cal Poly Pomona, Oregon State, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, UCLA, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, UC Berkeley, Portland, San Diego and Washington State.
Finally, USC's Collegiate 4+ A, B, and C boats will take off at 3:17 p.m. PST. The Trojans will compete with boats from Cal Poly Pomona, Chico State, Oregon State, Sonoma State, UC Berkeley, San Diego and Washington State.Â
"Our focus this fall has been all about teaching, development and building a solid foundation for the future," Chaudoin said. "Now, we're pumped to hit the water this weekend at Head of the American and show our pride for being a part of USC Rowing. Most of our athletes will be racing twice — once in either a pair or a four, and again in one of our four Varsity 8+s. It's going to be a great chance to compete with each other and some strong crews from around the West Coast. Fight On!"
Â
The Trojans last competed at Head of the American in 2017, where they placed fourth overall. Top performances included a fourth-place finish in the Collegiate 8+ (V8+ boat) and a second-place finish in the Open 2- (Bow 281).
