October 29, 2017 | Women's Rowing, Features
SACRAMENTO, Calif.—The USC women's rowing team showed promise for a positive season as the Trojan Varsity 8+ placed fourth overall at in the Women's Collegiate 8+ at the Head of the American. At this regatta, the Women of Troy competed against many of the Western region schools. For complete times and results, see below.
Â
"It was a great race day for the Women of Troy in Sacramento," said first year head coach Josh Adam. "We were so excited that alumnae came to cheer us on, and we were quite thankful that many Trojan parents came out in full support of our team. Racing the Head of the American provided us with some great, empirical data about our training to date. The women executed details in the race that we have been working on in practice quite well. The whole staff and I are so proud of the family's performances today. Moving forward, we know what we need to work on in the coming months, and we're excited to get back to work."
Â
The Trojan Varsity 8+ placed fourth with a time of 16:39.8 in a field of 26 boats. USC's time was just 2.2 seconds behind Washington's 2V8+ who placed third, 9.8 seconds behind Washington's Varsity 8+ who placed second and 10.7 seconds behind California's Varsity 8+ who won the regatta. Last year, Washington was the NCAA champion and California placed second in the nation.
