USC's Ally Batenhorst Added to AVCA Player of the Year Watch List

The Trojans’ outside hitter ranks in the Big Ten’s top 10 for both kills and points and has produced five double-doubles this season
LEXINGTON, Ky. – USC women's volleyball graduate outside hitter Ally Batenhorst (Houston, Texas/Seven Lakes HS) was one of 16 student-athletes added to the AVCA's inaugural watch list for its Division I Player of the Year Award, presented by Nike Volleyball, on Friday, Oct. 18.
Initially announced on Sept. 20, the inaugural list had 36 players from 21 schools on it. With the addition of the 16 players, the list now includes 52 players from 25 different schools. The Watch List will be narrowed down in November, and the committee can add players not from the original group of 52 to the November list. The final step will reveal the names of the finalists, which will be released before the AVCA Convention. The 2024 AVCA Player of the Year will be announced on Friday, Dec. 20, in Louisville, KY, during the Convention.
Batenhorst is one of 19 players on the Watch List from eight different Big Ten schools. The conference is represented by Indiana, Minnesota (2), Nebraska (5), Oregon (2), Penn State (3), Purdue (2), USC, and Wisconsin (3).
Batenhorst leads the Trojans and ranks eighth in the Big Ten for points (4.48 pps) and is ninth for kills (3.76 kps). She has produced five double-doubles this season and has reached double-digit kills in all 16 of the Trojans' contests. She is also averages 2.03 digs per set and 0.76 blocks per set.
The 16th-ranked Trojans (12-4, 4-2 Big Ten) are in College Park, Md., to take on Maryland (10-7, 1-5) at XFINITY Center on Friday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT). USC then heads north to face Rutgers (5-12, 0-6) at Jersey Mike's Arena in Piscataway, N.J., on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT). Both matches will be shown live on Big Ten Plus streams.
