USC Swimming Opens 2024-25 Season With a Win at Trojan Invitational

LOS ANGELES – USC men's and women's swimming opened the 2024-25 season victorious as the Trojans powered past Hawaii on Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Uytensu Aquatics Center.
The two-day, three-session invitational saw multiple USC rookies make their Uytengsu Aquatics Center debut's. Indiana graduate transfer Ella Ristic won the 500y freestyle in 4:49.45 and helped the Women of Troy to wins in both the 200y and 400y freestyle relay.
Freshman Oliver Sogaard-Andersen won the 200y freestyle (1:36.58) and touched second in both the 100y (44.37) and the 500y freestyle (4:30.82). Fellow freshman Junhao Chan won big in the 100y breaststroke, winning the event in 52.76. Later, he'd return to claim the 200y breaststroke in 1:55.48.
USC's Olympians fared well during the first weekend of fall competition, claiming a combined nine events. Polish Olympian Michal Chmielewski won the 100y back (48.64), 100y butterfly (47.65) and the 1650y free (15:17.32). Artem Selin claimed the 50y freestyle (20.04) while Hungarian Olympian Minna Abraham won three individual events (200y IM – 1:59.76, 400y IM – 4:09.36 and 200y back – 1:56.92) and helped the Women of Troy to five relay wins (400y medley, 200y free, 200y medley and 400y free).
Trojan sophomore Macky Hodges also had a big weekend at the UAC, winning the 200y freestyle (1:45.93), 1650y freestyle (16:37.72) and finishing second in the 500y freestyle (4:50.90). Hodges also swam on USC's winning 400y freestyle relay.
USC fifth year All-American Caroline Famous picked up a handful of individuals wins over the weekend, claiming the 50y free (22.48), 100y back (52.24) and the 100y fly (53.38). Famous also helped USC to relay wins in the 200y medley, 400y medley and 400y freestyle relay. Fellow USC fifth-year Vasilissa Buinaia claimed the 100y freestyle in 49.41 and also swam on USC's winning 400y freestyle relay.
After taking a year to focus on training for the Olympics, sophomore Ashley McMillan returned to competition at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center, claiming the 200y breast (2:14.51) and helping USC to a pair of relay wins.
Sophomore Sanberk Oktar was first in the 200y back (1:46.90), 200y IM (1:47.90) and 400y IM (3:51.99). He also helped the Trojans to a win in the 400y freestyle relay.
Next up, USC hosts a familiar foe in long-time Pac-12 conference rival Arizona on Friday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
