USC Track & Field Excels With 9 Event Wins At The Spokane Sports Showcase

USC athletes won nine different events, posted six USC all-time top 10 marks and established at least 14 personal bests in the season-opening Spokane Sports Showcase held at The Podium in Spokane, Wash. today (Jan. 12). Winning events today for USC were Jasmine Jones (W-60m H), Jassani Carter (W-60m), Bryce Brock (M-60m), Madison Whyte (W-300m), Johnnie Blockburger (M-300m), Marne Sullivan (W-800m), Max Thomas (M-200m), JC Stevenson (M-LJ) and Elias Gerald (M-HJ).

- Jasmine Jones won the women's 60m hurdles final with an NCAA-leading time of 8.03. Nonah Waldron placed fourth and tied her PR with a time of 8.35 in the final. Her time is second among freshmen in the country. Simone Ballard placed fifth with a time of 8.38. To reach the finals, Jones ran 8.07 in the prelims, Ballard 8.40 and Waldron 8.47.
- Jassani Carter won the women's 60m dash title with a time of 7.30, while Christine M. Mallard placed second with a time of 7.35. In the preliminary round, Carter had a PR of 7.27 which leads all NCAA runners in the early season and ranks tied for ninth on USC's all-time list. Mallard had a PR of 7.28 in the prelims which is tied for second on the NCAA descending order list and tied for 11th on USC's all-time list. Madison Whyte had a PR of 7.31 in the prelims which is the fastest freshman time this season and tied for fifth on the NCAA descending order list. Whyte and Samirah Moody, who ran 7.42 in the prelims to qualify for the final, did not run in the final.
- Bryce Brock won the men's 60m dash final with a PR of 6.64, which ties him for 10th on USC's all-time indoor list and ranks fifth nationally. Travis Williams was second in the final with a time of 6.70, Max Thomas was third with a time of 6.76 and Jacob Andrews was sixth with a time of 6.84. Justin Braun did not compete in the final, but ran a blazing 6.55 in the prelims which ties him for second on USC's all-time indoor list and ranks second among NCAA runners. Also in the prelims, Brock had a time of 6.68, Williams a time of 6.69, Thomas a time of 6.74 and Nickolas Miller a time of 6.87.
- Madison Whyte won the women's 300m race with a PR of 36.63, followed by Jan'Taijah Jones in second with a time of 36.85 and Yemi John in third with a PR of 37.68.
- Johnnie Blockburger won the men's 300m race with a time of 32.68, just edging Justin Braun who placed second with a PR of 32.74. Jacob Andrews placed fifth with a time of 33.51 and Bryce Brock was sixth with a time of 33.63.
- Marne Sullivan won the women's 800m race with a time of 2:10.34, just outside of USC's all-time top 10 list. Her time currently ranks eighth on the NCAA descending order list.
- Max Thomas won the men's 200m race with a time of 21.05, which ranks third on the NCAA descending order list. Nickolas Miller was seventh with a time of 21.58.
- JC Stevenson won the men's long jump with a PR of 26-1.00/7.95m which moved him from ninth to fifth on USC's all-time indoor list. It is also the second-farthest long jump in the indoor season.
- Elias Gerald won the men's high jump with an indoor best of 6-11.75/2.13m.
- Takiya Cenci placed second in the women's 400m race with a time of 55.33, which currently is tied for eighth on the NCAA descending order list.
- Yougendy Mauricette placed second in the men's 400m race with a PR of 47.36. His time ranks fourth on the NCAA descending order list this indoor season. Darius Rainey placed fifth in the 400m with a time of 48.47.
- Di'Niko Bates took second in the men's 60m hurdles final with a PR of 7.76 to move into eighth on USC's all-time list. His time ranks ninth among NCAA runners this season. The winner had a time of 7.75.
- Nathan Cumberbatch took second in the men's 800m final with a time of 1:50.65, which is his indoor PR and moves him to ninth on USC's all-time list.
- Jada Foreman placed second in the women's triple jump with a best leap of 40-4.25/12/30m, which is her collegiate best.
- Allie Jones took fifth in the women's long jump with a best leap of 19-2.75/5.86m. Alyssa Hope placed seventh with a mark of 18-11.75/5.78m.
- Allie Jones also placed ninth in the women's shot put with a PR of 41-5.75/12.64. She tied for the eighth-best throw, but dropped to ninth by her second-best throw.
