August 18, 2023 | Women's Basketball
Cohan comes to Troy following an 11-year run at ASU.
USC women's basketball has hired Ryan Cohan to serve as assistant athletic director for women's basketball operations on Lindsay Gottlieb's staff, bringing significant experience in women's basketball to the Trojan program. Cohan worked with Arizona State's program for 11 years and also has WNBA experience.
"We are thrilled to add Ryan to our staff," Gottlieb said of Cohan. "He comes to us highly touted by some of the best coaches and administrators in women's basketball, and it was clear to me from our first conversation that his skill set and personality will help elevate our entire program. With a range of experience from marketing to business operations to development, Ryan will be an asset to our athletics department as an administrator. Our women's basketball athletes will also benefit from his knowledge and experience in growing programs through day-to-day operations as well as visionary endeavors. I am thrilled that we were able to bring Ryan home to LA, and he will be an integral piece of our mission to make USC women's basketball the top program in the county."
A Los Angeles native, Cohan earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Arizona State, where he would spend 11 years working with the Sun Devils women's basketball program. He served six seasons as director of operations, functioning as the team liaison to various athletic department and campus units, overseeing the program's operating budget, team travel and booster club, organizing team community service outings and leading grassroots marketing efforts. He also assisted with game scheduling and the program's digital media initiatives.
Also during his time at ASU, Cohan served as an assistant director of basketball operations (2015-16), graduate assistant (2014-15) and undergraduate volunteer (2010-13). Additionally, he served on Arizona State University's Staff Council and was the primary advisor for the men's rugby club team on campus.
Â
Cohan spent two seasons with the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, where he held positions both with the club's marketing and public relations office and its sales staff. During his time with the Mercury, the team advanced to the Western Conference Finals (2013) and won the WNBA Championship (2014).Â
In September 2022, Cohan took a position as associate director of athletics at Cal Maritime, overseeing business operations, advancement and marketing and assisting in gameday operations and human resources. Also at Cal Maritime, Cohan served as the primary sport supervisor for men's golf, women's golf, men's soccer and women's soccer, and was the athletics representative on the Campus Leadership Council.
Cohan earned a degree in broadcast journalism in 2013 and a master's in higher & postsecondary education in 2015 — both from ASU.
