USC Baseball Elevates Andy Jenkins To Full-Time Assistant Coach
July 12, 2023 | Baseball
Andy Jenkins, who joined the USC baseball coaching staff as a volunteer assistant in August 2022, has been elevated to a full-time assistant coach under USC head coach Andy Stankiewicz as of July 2023.
Â
Jenkins boasts seven years of professional playing experience and 10 years of collegiate coaching experience. He has been to Omaha four times as a player and coach, winning a College World Series title while on staff at Oregon State in 2018.
Â
"Big thanks to USC Athletics, as it shows it commitment to our baseball program to bring Andy Jenkins on as a full-time assistant coach," Stankiewicz said. "Coach Jenkins has built a strong reputation in player development, and the relationship skills he has developed in recruiting make this promotion really well deserved. Fight On!"
Â
Jenkins came to USC in 2022 after spending the one season as an assistant at Washington and the two years with Cal State Fullerton (2019, 2020). Prior to that, Jenkins spent seven years on staff at Oregon State, helping the Beavers win the 2018 College World Series title along with CWS appearances in 2013 and 2017. He was also a standout collegiate player for the Beavers in 2004 and 2005.
Â
Jenkins has an elite track record of developing catchers, having worked with Adley Rutschman and Logan Ice while with Oregon State. Rutschman was the 2019 College World Series Most Outstanding Player and the 2019 Golden Spikes Award winner as the top amateur player in the country. He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles. Ice was the 2016 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year after throwing out 44 percent of base runners. He was selected in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians.
Â
A standout player in the Pac-10 for Oregon State, Jenkins was a first-team All-Pac-10 selection in 2005, hitting .388 to lead OSU to its first College World Series in over 50 years at the time. In their postseason run, Jenkins led the Beavers with a .459 average while driving in 13 runs.
Â
He was drafted in the 11th round of the 2005 MLB Draft by the Florida Marlins and played seven years professionally, reaching as high as the AAA level. After his playing career, Jenkins returned to OSU and graduated with a degree in psychology in 2012.
