Versatile guard takes his talents to South Beach
USC men's basketball guard Drew Peterson has signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Miami Heat today (June 23).
Peterson, from Liberyville, Ill., was second on the Trojans during the 2022-23 season with a 13.9 scoring average, while leading the team with a 6.2 rebounds per game and in total assists with 143. Peterson also had 35 steals, 25 blocks and was second on the team with 48 three-pointers made. He was named All-Pac-12 first team for the second consecutive season. Peterson was one of three NCAA Power 6 conference players to average at least 13.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game during the 2022-23 season. Peterson served as one of USC's team captains and was named USC's co-MVP after the season.
In 100 games played for USC, Peterson scored 1,205 points and became USC's 43rd player all-time to surpass 1,000 career points tallied as a Trojan. He averaged 12.1 points and 5.8 rebounds in his three seasons at USC. The versatile scorer and rebounder began his career at Rice and scored a combined total of 1,721 points in 164 career games for USC and Rice.
The Exhibit 10 contract that Peterson signed with the Heat allows a franchise to convert a player (specifically on a non-guaranteed one-year minimum) to a two-way contract, according to sportsbusinessclassroom.com. He is expected to play for Miami in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Nev. which runs from July 3-17.
