Aoki, Wisch Named to All-West Region Team
June 13, 2023 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES – The ABCA released its all-region teams today (June 13) and USC baseball's Caden Aoki and Kyle Wisch earned recognition.
The two Trojan pitchers were named to the All-West Region second team after helping to lead USC to a 34-23-1 record and a fourth-place finish in the Pac-12.
Aoki battled minor injuries early in the season, but from the start of Pac-12 play onward, he solidified himself as one of the nation's top pitchers and USC's regular Saturday starter. Aoki posted a 2.98 ERA in 63.1 innings pitched. His 2.98 ERA led the Pac-12 this season and was 41st in the NCAA. He gave up more than one earned run just three times in his 11 starts and threw five or more shutout innings in a start three times. Aoki struck out 52 batters to just 20 walks.
The sophomore righty transferred to USC from Notre Dame prior to this season, earning All-Pac-12 honors in his first campaign as a Trojan.
Wisch was one of the Trojans' aces in the bullpen this season, finishing 6th in the conference with seven saves. His 1.98 ERA was best among all USC pitchers with more than 5.0 innings pitched, and his 32 appearances on the mound were third in the Pac-12 and 15th in the NCAA. Wisch struck out 40 batters and walked just 16, while also holding opponents to a .164 average against him.
Wisch made his second straight appearance on the All-Pac-12 honorable mention list this year and was also named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year watch list. It is the first all-region honor for the redshirt-junior.
