USC women's basketball has a talented representative in the pro ranks with Kadi Sissoko's selection to the 2023 Phoenix Mercury roster. Drafted 29th overall, Sissoko follows up her impressive time as a Trojan by earning her place in the WNBA with a spot on the Mercury roster for opening day (May 19).
A native of Paris, France, Sissoko joined the Trojans as a grad transfer in 2022. USC's top scorer, Sissoko helped USC reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014. The versatile 6-2 forward was the 29th overall selection in the 2023 WNBA Draft. She is the 13th Trojan to make an active WNBA roster.
Sissoko joins a star-studded list of Trojans who have competed in the WNBA. The last player to be drafted and make a WNBA roster was Temi Fagbenle, who was picked 35th in the 2016 draft by the Minnesota Lynx. She'd go on to win the 2017 WNBA Championship with the Lynx. Before that, Jacki Gemelos and Briana Gilbreath both were picked up in the 2012 draft and went on to roster spots in the WNBA. Prior to them, 2007 second-rounder Shay Murphy would go on to win a WNBA Championship with the Phoenix Mercury in 2014. Other legendary Women of Troy who made impacts as players in the WNBA are: Cynthia Cooper, Ebony Hoffman, Monica Lamb, Lisa Leslie, Nicky McCrimmon, Pam McGee, Tina Thompson and Adrain Williams.
