The Trojans got 15 kills from graduate opposite Kevin Kobrine in a victory over Concordia University Irvine

LOS ANGELES – The 13th-ranked USC men's volleyball team (10-15, 3-9 MPSF) swept Concordia University Irvine (8-18, 2-10) in straight sets (25-22, 25-15, 25-21) on Senior Night at Galen Center on Saturday, April 15. The win locks the Trojans in as the six seed in the upcoming Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament set to be played at Stanford's Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif.

KEY PLAYERS

Fr. OH Dillon Klein led the Trojans with 21.0 points collected on 18 kills (1e, 32att) with a .531 hitting percentage. He also added two blocks and two services aces. It was Klein's 19th match in double-digit kills and his 21st in double-digit points.
Gr. OH Kevin Kobrine reached double-digit points for the 16th time and matched his season high with 15 kills (1e, 26att) on .538 hitting. He also had eight digs, two blocks, and a service ace. It was also his 13th match in double-digit kills.
Jr. S Nate Tennant dished out 35 assists and helped guide the Trojans to a .369 hitting percentage. Tennant also picked up six digs and had three blocks, a service ace, and a kill.
Sr. LIB George Dyer had five digs and put up five assists.
Sr. MB Lucas Frassrand led all players with six blocks (one solo) and added two kills.
For the Golden Eagles, Uriel Batista led with 11 kills but had seven errors on his 30 attempts to finish with a .133 hitting percentage. Jacob Reilly led all players with 10 digs and Makai Lipson put up 25 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Trojans never trailed and were nary threatened in the first set on the way to a 25-22 win. Kobrine had seven of his kills on 11 swings without an error and Klein added five kills of his own. USC put up three blocks and hit .346 in the opening frame to go in front, 1-0.
USC rode its momentum into the second set and ran away with a 25-15 win to go on top, 2-0. Klein led the way with five kills on nine swings (.556) while Kobrine tacked on three more kills. The Trojans had three more blocks and served four aces to help hold the CUI attack to a .071 outing with eight kills and six errors on 28 swings.
Once more, the Trojans' block played a factor as it racked up 3.5 blocks in the third set. USC saw Klein go off for eight kills on 14 swings (.571). Kobrine kept pace with five more kills of his own and USC hit .400 as a team. CUI got five kills from Batista but couldn't overcome the Trojans down the stretch.

UP NEXT

Sixth-seeded USC will face third-seeded tournament host Stanford (13-12, 6-6 MPSF) in the quarterfinal of the MPSF tournament on Wednesday (April 19) at 5:30 p.m. PT. All matches will be shown by FloVolleyball's streaming service.

MATCH NOTES

USC improved to 14-6 all-time against Concordia and has won six straight matches over the Golden Eagles.
The Trojans out-blocked their opponent for the 17th time this spring.
