USC Men's Volleyball Falls to Stanford in MPSF Quarterfinal

The Trojans put up a season-high 20 blocks in a four-set loss to the Cardinal
STANFORD, Calif. – The sixth-seeded and 12th-ranked USC men's volleyball team (10-16, 3-9 MPSF) fell in four sets (21-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-15) to third-seeded and eighth-ranked Stanford (14-12, 6-6) in the MPSF tournament quarterfinals at Maples Pavilion on Wednesday, April 19.

- Fr. OH Dillon Klein led the Trojans' attack with 12 kills and added a career-high seven blocks (two solo) and an ace. Klein reached double-digit kills for the 20th time and had his 22nd match in double-digit points (17.5).
- Gr. OH Kevin Kobrine reached double-digit points for the 17th time (12.5) and finished with nine kills, six blocks (one solo) and a match-high 12 digs.
- Jr. S Nate Tennant put up 28 assists and had a career-high six blocks to go with seven digs.
- Sr. LIB George Dyer also had seven digs and posted three assists.
- Sr. MB Lucas Frassrand led all players with a career-high nine blocks and added four kills and three digs for 8.5 points.
- For the Cardinal, Kevin Lamp led with 17 kills and added seven digs and four blocks. Theo Snoey had 14 kills and hit .333 to go with three blocks and five digs. Will Rottman finished with 13 kills, seven digs, and three service aces.
- The Trojans racked up 5.5 blocks in the first set to close out a 25-21 win. Klein logged five of his kills in the opening frame and Kobrine added three. Jackson Reed dug up five of the Trojans' 12 digs to help USC hold the Cardinal to a .171 attack rate (14k, 8e) on 35 swings.
- Stanford claimed the second set by the same score (25-21) despite USC's nine-block effort. Klein and Kobrine each had two more kills and Paulson added three for a USC attack that hit .200 in the set. Snoey had six of kills in the second set and Stanford dug up 16 balls to even the match.
- The third was tied 10 times and the lead changed hands just twice before the Cardinal wrestled away a 26-24 win to go ahead, 2-1, in the match. USC had 4.5 more blocks and three kills from Klein but hit just .069 against four blocks by Stanford. Five Cardinal players had at least two kills in the set as Stanford hit .238.
- The Cardinal rolled away with the fourth and won, 25-15, to eliminate the Trojans. USC was held to .118 hitting and just eight kills while Stanford hit .688 with 12 kills on just 16 swings. The Cardinal also collected five service aces in the fourth and kept the Trojans out of system as it built its lead.
- USC fell to 72-37 all-time against Stanford.
- The Trojans posted a season-high 20 blocks and out-blocked their opponent for the 18th time this spring.
