No. 21 USC Drops 3-2 Decision at Oregon State 3-2 in 13 Innings

CORVALLIS, Ore. --The No. 21 USC baseball team fell 3-2 in a 13-inning marathon matchup to the Oregon State Beavers Saturday.
Sophomore Fisher Johnson (2-3) took the loss on the mound for USC (21-12-1, 9-5). Sophomore Caden Aoki was brilliant in the start, tossing 6.0 innings, surrendering one run on four hits, walking one and striking out three.
Junior Carson Wells led the way offensively for the Trojans, going 3-for-4 in the ballgame with a double and two RBI. Senior Nick Lopez compiled a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Trojans first put runs on the board in the second inning. USC got an RBI single from Wells, scoring Lopez from second base.
The game remained tied until the sixth inning, when the Trojans got going again on offense. Senior Johnny Olmstead scored on a squeeze bunt from Wells, making it 2-1 in favor of the Trojans. The Trojans were unable to hold the lead, as Oregon State scored in the seventh to tie it up. Kyle Wisch tossed a scoreless eighth and Garrett Clarke came in and sent it to extras with a scoreless ninth. Clarke would toss two more scoreless frames before exiting.
Tanner Smith drove in the winning run for the home team in the bottom of the 13th.Â
