USC Rowing Rigs up to Race in the USC-UCLA Dual
March 10, 2023 | Women's Rowing
LOS ANGELES—The USC Women's Rowing team is set to challenge UCLA in the annual dual meet on Saturday (March 11) at the Port of Los Angeles. The Women of Troy are 19-1 against the Bruins with the only Trojan loss in 2021. This is the first official dual of the spring season.Â
Â
The dual will begin at 9:00 a.m. PT as the Second Varsity Four hits the water first. The Third Varsity Eight will then race at 9:15 a.m. PT, and the First Varsity Four will follow at 9:30 a.m. PT. Then the Second Varsity Eight will race at 9:45 and finally the Varsity Eight will close out the morning with the final race at 10:00 a.m. PT.Â
Â
Should the Trojans win the dual, they will be presented with the Amy Fuller Kearney – Lori Guerro Azbill Trophy. The Trojan's claimed the inaugural trophy in the 2022 UCLA dual. This trophy is set to honor long time UCLA coach Amy Fuller Kearny and former USC assistant coach Lori Guerro Azbill. The presentation of the Amy Fuller Kearney - Lori Guerro Azbill Trophy for the UCLA-USC City Dual will occur immediately after the dual.Â
Â
To highlight the year-long all-sports competition between crosstown rivals USC and UCLA, the Crosstown Cup (formerly Gauntlet Trophy) has been awarded annually since 2001-02 to the school with the most successful athletic year against the other. Points are awarded to the winner of each Trojan-Bruin head-to-head contest and the Crosstown Cup is awarded to the school with the most points at year's end. USC has won the Crosstown Cup 10 times in the competition's 17 years: 2001-02, 2003-04, 2005-06, 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2013-14 and 2015-16.
Â
In 2022, the Trojans won the Third Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, and Varsity Four races, but the Bruins prevailed in the Varsity Eight race making the final score 4 to 3.Â
