USC Women's Swimming and Diving Finishes Second At Pac-12 Championships; Kaitlyn Dobler and Nike Agunbiade Win Individual Titles
February 25, 2023 | Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving
The USC women's swimming and diving team, propelled by Kaitlyn Dobler and Nike Agunbiade's individual titles, wrapped up a historic night at the 2023 Pac-12 Championships in Federal Way, Wash.
The Women of Troy finished second overall in the team standings with 1267.5 points, their best finish at the championships since winning the team title in 2016. The Trojans entered the final day of competition trailing the Bears and used a big night in the pool and on the diving platform to jump ahead into the runner-up spot. Stanford won the team title with 1725.5 points.
Senior Agunbiade captured her second career Pac-12 diving title, scoring 333.10 points to take the platform diving event (USC's first win on platform since 2015). With the win, Agunbiade picked up USC's sixth all-time title in the event and 31st overall. She also became the first African American woman in both Pac-12 and USC history to ever win two Pac-12 diving titles (3-meter in 2021, platform in 2023).
USC's Maddie Huitt (261.70) and Savannah Stocker (251.15) also competed in the platform finals, finishing fifth and seventh, respectively. An additional two Trojans competed in the consolation final, with Grace Lee finishing fourth (229.35) and Allison Ward finishing eighth (179.70).
After claiming the 100y breaststroke title yesterday, NCAA Champion Kaitlyn Dobler reclaimed her 2021 200y breaststroke title, posting a 2:05.66 to win the event. Dobler, who finished runner-up to teammate Isabelle Odgers last season, returned to beat Odgers (2:06.66) this year as she'd post the sixth fastest time in the country this season. Dobler's win marked the Trojans 11th all-time 200y breaststroke title and 19th overall Pac-12 breaststroke title.
In the consolation final, senior Nicole Pavlopoulou never trailed, snagging the b-final victory in 2:11.41. In the bonus final, Ella Flowers finished third with 2:14.04.
Junior Anicka Delgado just missed the podium in the 100y freestyle, clocking a 48.26 to finish fourth in the A-final. Joining her in the final was teammate Elise Garcia who touched sixth in 48.66. In the consolation final, Hannah Kuechler posted a sixth-place finish with a time of 49.52.
USC was well represented in the b-final of the 200y backstroke, with four Trojans racing in the heat. Hanna Henderson posted a personal best 1:54.42 to claim second, while Aela Janvier (1:54.56) was third. Aria Bernal (1:57.64) touched seventh and Ashley McMillan (2:00.84) rounded out the field, finishing eighth.
USC has now won at least two Pac-12 individual titles (including diving) in 15 straight years and in 22 of the past 23 seasons. The Women of Troy have also won at least one title in 29 of the past 30 seasons.
