USC Baseball Completes Sweep With 12-2 Win Over Marist

Three Trojan pitchers combined to hold the Red Foxes to just two runs on five hits and two walks in the game, and the USC offense put up an eight-run third inning and never looked back.
Similar to the night before, Marist grabbed an early lead when they got an RBI single from Nathan Lincoln in the top of the third. The advantage was short-lived however, as the Trojans scored eight runs on four hits and two errors in the bottom half of the inning. Cole Gabrielson hit his first of two homers on the day with a three-run shot in the third and Johnny Olmstead added a two-run blast.
Eric Hammond got the start and tossed three strong innings before hitting his pitch count and giving way to Blake Sodersten. After giving up a solo-homer in the fourth, Sodersten settled in and would not allow another run through his 5.0 innings of work, striking out nine batters in the process. Josh Blum finished off the dominant performance by striking out all three batters he faced in the ninth. The last nine Marist batters to record outs in the game were all retired via strikeout.
The Trojans added two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to cap the scoring. Nick Lopez hit his third home run in as many games when he went deep to lead off the seventh. Gabrielson also added his second homer of the day with a solo-homer in the seventh.
