Five Trojans Earn All-Pacific Region Honors

LOS ANGELES – The United Soccer Coaches released its All-Region teams this week and five USC players earned spots on the All-Pacific Region Teams
Zoe Burns was named to the first team, while Simi Awujo, Kayla Colbert, Kayla Duran and Helena Sampaio all earned spots on the second team.
ZOE BURNS – ALL-PACIFIC REGION FIRST TEAM
Burns, the Trojans' senior captain, saw time all over the field while starting all 19 of USC's contests on the year. In her 1,466 minutes played, Burns posted one goal and six assists, while also helping the USC defense to 10 total shutouts. Her six assists are tied for the team lead and tied for 5th in the Pac-12 this year. Burns was also named to the All-Pac-12 second team this year. It is her second straight year on the all-region team after earning second team honors last season.
SIMI AWUJO – ALL-PACIFIC REGION SECOND TEAM
Awujo controlled the midfield for the Trojans all season long, appearing in 18 games and making 15 starts over the course of her junior season. She posted a pair of assists on the year and played a total of 1,250 minutes. Awujo was also a force defensively for the Trojans, helping USC to 10 shutouts on the year and the Pac-12's second best shutout percentage at 0.529. The stellar season came on the heels of Awujo spending most of the preseason with the Canadian National Team at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. She also missed one contest due to a midseason call-up from the Canadian National Team. Awujo was also named to the All-Pac-12 first team this season and is making her first appearance on an all-region team.
KAYLA COLBERT – ALL-PACIFIC REGION SECOND TEAM
Colbert was USC's offensive catalyst over the course of the 2023 season, with the junior forward leading USC in both goals and assists to finish the season with a team high 18 total points. Her six goals were tied for 11th in the Pac-12 and her six assists were tied for 5th in the conference. Both totals are career highs for Colbert, who earned her first All-Pac-12 nod this year as well, making an appearance on the second team. She appeared in all 19 games this season and made 17 starts.
KAYLA DURAN – ALL-PACIFIC REGION SECOND TEAM
Duran showed herself to be one of the most impactful grad transfers in the country this season as she stepped in and anchored the USC defense after joining the program in the offseason. Duran started all 19 of USC contests at center back, leading the team in minutes played with 1,651. She also led the Trojans to 10 shutouts on the year, including helping USC be the only team to shut out No. 4 Stanford on the year. USC's 0.526 shutout percentage was 3rd in the Pac-12 and 30th in the country. Duran also scored one goal and provided a pair of assists.
HELENA SAMPAIO – ALL-PACIFIC REGION SECOND TEAM
Sampaio was another force in the midfield for USC, finishing the season 3rd on the team with 15 total points and helping USC to 10 total shutouts defensively. Sampaio scored six goals on the year, which is good for 17th in the conference and tied for the team lead, while also providing three assists. Her goal in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament sent USC through to the second round. She is also one of four players to start all 19 games for USC this season. The junior also earned her first All-Pac-12 award this year after being named to the conference's second team.
