USC Women's Soccer Falls 3-1 to No. 3 Duke in Season Opener

LOS ANGELES – Eleanor Morrissey scored late, but the USC women's soccer team couldn't overcome a first half deficit, falling 3-1 to No. 3 Duke on Wednesday night at Rawlinson Stadium in the team's 2026 season opener.
After the Trojans missed an early chance in the first minute of the game, Duke came back and scored two goals in the first 13 minutes of play to put USC on its back foot for the rest of the half. The Blue Devils would add a third goal in the 31st minute to take a 3-0 lead into the break.
USC tried to flip the script in the second half, coming out as the aggressors after the break which led to Morrissey's strike in the 63rd minute. Jaiden Rodriguez played a long ball forward and Savannah Leifried slid a pass through into the area for Morrissey, who ran onto it and beat the keeper to her left. It was the first career goal for the junior midfielder.
Rhea Moore had a near miss later in the half for USC, with her shot going just over the crossbar in the 83rd minute. After being out-possessed in the first half, USC held the majority of the possession in the final 45 minutes.
