USC Women's Volleyball Hosts Wildcats and Sun Devils for Homecoming Week

LOS ANGELES – The USC women's volleyball team (14-8, 8-4 Pac-12) will play five of its eight November matches within the friendly confines of Galen Center and gets started this weekend as host to Arizona (6-17, 1-11) and 15th-ranked Arizona State (21-3, 9-3). The Women of Troy split road matches in the Mountains last week and look to avenge an earlier road split with a home sweep against the Wildcats and Sun Devils when they come to LA.

FIRST SERVE (TL;DR)

USC is led by fourth-year head coach Brad Keller who has the unique experience of having coached both men's and women's programs at both USC and UCLA. Overall, Keller is 57-41 (.582) as the Trojans' head coach.
The Women of Troy are undefeated (8-0) at home this season and have won 10 straight matches at Galen Center since Nov. 12, 2022. USC is 201-54 (.788) all-time at the arena since it opened in 2006.
First-year Arizona State head coach JJ Van Niel spent five seasons on the USC sideline as an assistant and associate head coach (2018-22). He is a 1998 graduate of USC's Marshall School of Business.
Arizona OH Jordan Wilson was a Pac-12 All-Freshman choice in 2022 as a first-year pin-hitter with the Trojans. She transferred to the Wildcats in May.
The Trojans are 6-3 in five-set matches this season and have played four sets seven times and three sets six times.
Sr. OH Skylar Fields has had double-digit kills in 21 matches; and has been named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week twice this season (six times in her career). She leads the league in kills (4.93 kps) and points (5.38 pps).
Fr. OH London Wijay was named Pac-12's Freshman of the Week (Oct. 23) for the third time this season and is USC's second-leading scorer (2.88 pps).

LAST TIME OUT: USC split matches on a trip into the Rocky Mountains that started with a narrow five-set loss to Colorado and finished with a four-set win over Utah. It was the third straight time the Trojans have lost to the Buffaloes in Boulder, but USC's win over the Utes marked the first time the Women of Troy have defeated Utah in Salt Lake City since 2017 and was the first regular-season sweep of the Utes for the Trojans in as long. OH Skylar Fields posted a career-high 31.0 points in the loss to CU and recorded her 16th-career double-double with 24 kills and 11 digs in the win over the Utes. She also surpassed the 1,000-kill mark as a Trojan and is now within 32 kills of reaching 2,000 kills in her career.

TIME TO PAC IT UP: The Women of Troy will be playing their final season in the Pac-12 Conference. On June 30, 2022, USC and UCLA both announced that the schools' athletic programs would join the Big Ten Conference in 2024. Since that time, Oregon and Washington also made similar announcements and all four teams will now compete in the Big Ten for most sports.

HOMECOMING REUNION: The Trojans host Arizona and Arizona State on USC football's Homecoming/Reunion Weekend. Appropriately, first-year Sun Devil head coach JJ Van Niel—who spent five seasons at USC as the Trojans' associate head coach (2018-22) and graduated from USC in 1998—returns to campus in a new role after taking his first appointment as a collegiate head coach in January. Similarly, following a Pac-12 All-Freshman season at USC, Arizona OH Jordan Wilson transferred to join the Wildcats and returns to campus for the first time since her departure. A pair of Sun Devils were former high school teammates of Trojans. MB Olivia Johnson played with LIB Gala Trubint at Scripps Ranch HS in San Diego; and MB Claire Jeter is a fellow graduate of Ridge Point HS in Missouri City, Texas, where OH Skylar Fields also prepped.

DESERT DWELLERS: Eight USC players have come from the state of Arizona. Two-time All-American OH Khalia Lanier (2016-19) hailed from Scottsdale, Ariz., and three-time All-American MB Emily Adams (2001-04) is from Phoenix. Yvonne Lewis (1984-87) was the first Trojan to come from the Copper State and the only one from Tucson where she prepped at Sahuaro HS. USC is 62-26 all-time in the state of Arizona with a 29-16 record in Tucson and 33-10 in Tempe. At home, the Women of Troy are a combined 74-11 against the Wildcats and Sun Devils.
