USC Swimming Emerges Victorious During Fall Home Opener

Trojans win the USC Invitational
LOS ANGELES – The Trojan swim team turned in a slew of stellar swims over the weekend, taking down Hawaii, UCSB and UCSD to win the USC Invitational at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
In the latest CSCAA rankings the Women of Troy checked in at No. 7, while the men's squad took the No. 16 spot.
With six 'dual' wins on the table at the USC Invitational, head coach Lea Maurer and the Trojan Swimming program claimed them all, wrapping up USC's home opener at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center victorious over Hawaii, UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego.
The Women of Troy swept all four relays during the meet, even finishing 1-2 with A and B relays in three out of four relays. On the men's side, Troy won three of the relays (400y medley relay, 200y medley relay and 400y free relay).
USC won the 200y IM on both sides, with Katherine Adams (1:59.18) and Chris O'Grady (1:45.65) capturing their respective events.
Ecuador Olympian Anicka Delgado led a USC sweep in the 100y butterfly, touching first in 52.54, just .93 seconds ahead of Caroline Famous (53.47) and roughly 1.8 seconds ahead of Genevieve Sasseville (54.37), who touched third.
Other big wins for the Women of Troy included a sweep of the 500y freestyle as Claire Tuggle (4:39.16), Minna Abraham (4:41.74) and Marlene Kahler (4:49.38) finished 1-2-3, respectively.
The Chmielewski twins led a 1-2 finish in the 500y freestyle as Krzysztof (4:16.53) and Michal (4:27.36) touched first and second, respectively. Krzysztof also won the 1650y free (14:41.62) while Michal won the 100y fly in 48.07.
USC went 1-2 in both splash and dash events, with Vasilissa Buinaia (22.08) and Anicka Delgado (22.54) going 1-2 on the women's side. Artem Selin won the men's 50y free in 19.82, followed by Mateo Parker who touched second in 19.95.
The Women of Troy were dominant in the 200y free, with Tuggle (1:45.50) leading a 1-2-3-4 USC finish. Vasilissa touched second in 1:46.07, followed by Macky Hodges in third (1:47.81) and Hannah Kuechler in fourth (1:48.48).
Greek Olympian Vaggelis Makyrgiannis won both the 100y back (48.23) and 200y back (1:43.17), while also winning the 200y free (1:36.35).
Freshman Buinaia won the 100y free in 47.52, while also leading a sweep in the event. Minna Abraham (48.92), Claire Tuggle (48.94) and Anicka Delgado (49.37) finished 2-3-4, respectively.
On the men's side, sprint specialist Selin blasted a 43.23 in the 100y free to capture his second sprint event of the weekend.
USC swept the 200y breast, with Dobler (2:10.10) and O'Grady (1:54.64) winning their respective events.
The final USC sweep of the weekend came in the 200y fly as Sasseville (1:59.57) and Michal Chmielewski (1:45.63) both recorded individual wins.

The Trojans will stay local next weekend as they welcome back some Trojan greats for the annual Alumni Relays event on Saturday, October 21 at 9:00 a.m.
